anselm's day

Tuesday, November 30, 2004

I just finished watching a program about Gethsemani Abbey, the home of Thomas Merton. The commentator made the observation how monasteries are counter to popular culture, yet are still in the forefront of study and theological/philosophical thought - and, most importantly, centers of prayer. I am not as concerned that most people today are not seeking appropriate knowledge as I am about the impression I have that they are not seeking any knowledge and are content to be fed by popular media. Let us thank those who are aware of the situation and strive to guide us in the right paths by generating enthusiasm for learning.
